This Opportunity

As a Specification Writer, you will support project teams by developing and managing architectural specifications for complex institutional projects. Your responsibilities include ensuring technical accuracy, maintaining master specifications, researching products and materials, and collaborating with designers and technical staff to improve documentation standards. You will work out of our Los Angeles, CA office.

Your New Role

  • Develop, organize, and maintain architectural specifications for healthcare, science & technology, higher education, and K–12 projects, ensuring alignment with schedules, standards, and codes.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Architects on specification deliverables and workload distribution.
  • Provide guidance on building materials and systems, focusing on sustainability.
  • Review and coordinate consultant specifications to ensure consistency with standards and owner requirements.
  • Update firm master specifications with current codes and emerging technologies.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks such as addenda, RFIs, and product submittals.
  • Educate design teams on technical excellence in specification development.

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of experience developing architectural specifications for complex projects within the AEC industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of building codes, especially IBC, and jurisdiction-specific requirements across California.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies supporting integrated practice and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret project goals into compliant specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with higher education, science & technology, healthcare, or institutional projects.
  • Certifications such as CCS, CDT, LEED.

Compensation: $88,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual salary depends on skills, experience, certifications, education, and location. This range is based on the Los Angeles area.
