The Sr. Reporter, Distressed Debt is responsible for covering, in real-time and in-depth, developing deal and trend stories impacting the distressed and defaulted segment of the leveraged finance asset class, with special emphasis on leveraged loans and high yield bonds. This role will use their knowledge of the debt markets and ability to develop and maintain market sources to generate compelling content for our audience.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Generate detailed news stories, on a daily basis, illuminating the distressed/restructuring space in the US leveraged finance markets, with an emphasis on debt issuers facing or entering the restructuring process, and how those companies manage this process (liability management exercises, payment defaults)
- Generate, over the longer-term, trend-based stories on the distressed/restructuring market space, illustrating the potential direction of the overall market
- Help formulate, with LCD Managing Editors and Editor-in-Chief, the scope and focus of LCD’s restructuring/distressed debt coverage and strategy
- Generate detailed news stories, as market activity dictates, on asset classes and topics related to distressed restructuring space/LCD’s core markets (e.g., CLO/CLO secondary markets)
- Build and maintain a network of market sources covering all aspects of the leveraged debt restructuring market, including deal advisers, investors, lawyers, traders
- Work collaboratively with the LCD editorial team to provide market insight on the broader leveraged debt markets (new issues, trading levels and activity, etc.)
- Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
- Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 4+ years’ experience reporting on and/or analyzing the debt markets, or related experience
- Exceptional attention to detail with ability to work with data-intensive content
- Ability to generate accurate and relevant news copy and content daily
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced/real-time news environment
- Ability to work effectively as part of a highly productive team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to learn new systems easily

Compensation
- Annual salary: $115,000-$130,000
- Target bonus: 10%
*Starting pay depends on experience and location.
Working Conditions:
Most roles require working in the office 3-4 days/week, with some flexibility for remote work. The initial training period may require full-time in-office work. Travel may be required for meetings and events.
