Position Title Communication Dispatcher FLSA Department Office Of Campus Police Job Summary

Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the open position of Communications Dispatcher. The Communications Dispatcher works under general direction of the Communications Supervisor. This is a highly responsible and professional position that involves overseeing and managing incoming and outgoing calls of the Police, and Fire department for Xavier University and the surrounding community. Must have multitasking skills. Must be willing to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. AA/EOE

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Strong knowledge of the roadways throughout the immediate area.
  • Ability to work in a team environment in high pressure situations.
  • Strong oral communication skills are essential.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of radio dispatch regulations, procedures, protocols, and/or equipment.
  • Knowledge of fire and burglar alarm systems reporting.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and ability to use Computer Aided Dispatch software.
  • Receptionist skills.
  • Computer data entry skills.
  • Clerical, word processing, and/or office skills.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and solve problems in a technical setting.
