Located seventeen miles from downtown Chicago, Oakton serves northern Cook County with campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie, Illinois.

Oakton College is looking to develop a pool of adjunct instructors to teach.

Job Description:

Applicants must be strong communicators and effective classroom facilitators who enjoy teaching in a student-centered environment. Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Construction of a course syllabus that stipulates course objectives, content, and grading criteria.
  • Preparation of course presentations and instructional materials.
  • Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and meeting courses at scheduled times.
  • Consultation with and evaluation of students.
  • Maintenance of clear records on student performance.
  • Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Participation in department and/or institutional assessments of student learning.
  • Participation on appropriate committees within the position's assigned department and division.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Journalism or a related field, such as Communications or English, with 18 graduate semester hours in Journalism.

Preferred:

College teaching experience

Familiarity with online/electronic publication media

Qualifications unique to this position:

Teaching Online

Advising a student news publication at the college level
