Job Summary

San Bernardino City Unified School District is seeking passionate, innovative, and dedicated Secondary Visual Arts Teachers to join our creative arts team for the 2025-2026 school year. This position involves developing and delivering engaging, standards-aligned visual arts instruction, providing students with enriching experiences that cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate visual arts program aligned with the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework.
  • Present and display student artwork regularly within the school and district community.
  • Foster an inclusive, inspiring classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and personal growth in the visual arts.
  • Regularly assess student performance and progress, adapting instruction based on evaluation data and clearly communicating student development to families and school staff.
  • Effectively collaborate with administration, colleagues, students, and parents to enhance student learning and integrate arts education within the broader curriculum.
  • Actively participate in Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) events and district-wide art showcases.
  • Maintain accurate records and fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the site principal.

Qualifications

  • Valid California K-12 Single Subject Art Credential or Multiple Subject Credential with an Art Supplement.
  • English Language Learner (EL) Authorization (CLAD, BCLAD, or equivalent) required.
  • Experience in designing and delivering developmentally appropriate and engaging visual arts curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional strategies to deliver balanced and comprehensive visual arts instruction, including technology integration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to analyze instructional effectiveness and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Experience showcasing student artwork publicly and fostering community engagement through the visual arts.

Physical Requirements

  • Capability to actively engage students in art activities, including extended periods of standing and demonstrating artistic techniques.
  • Adequate visual and auditory capabilities for effective classroom instruction.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees preferred.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential in Art with EL Authorization.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive annual salary: $66,593 – $121,493, dependent on education, credentials, and experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and retirement contributions.

  • Length of Work Year: 186 days (traditional calendar)
  • Reports To: Site Principal
