We’re seeking creative writers who are tuned into the latest in music and pop culture, from viral TikTok hits and festival headliners to film/TV crossovers, industry trends, and fan-fueled fandoms. Our ideal candidates have a deep passion for music, a sharp editorial voice, and the ability to connect timely stories with cultural context.
As a Music Features Writer, you will be writing articles that provide more in-depth analysis on the music industry and current trends, as well as writing timely news stories about the latest developments in pop music. Collider is looking for someone with expertise on Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, Indie, Electronic, and more. Candidates should be able to cover anything and everything ranging from the significance of Grammy snubs, Billy Joel’s retirement, Dave Grohl’s impact on rock, the long-storied beef between Kendrick Lamar & Drake, Katy Perry’s latest viral moment, Rick Rubin’s unique production technique, the Warped Tour revival, and the lineup reveals of festivals Coachella and Lollapalooza. If you're obsessed with what’s trending in music, love to write, and understand what makes a piece of coverage both informative and shareable, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities:
- Write a minimum of 4 articles per week.
- Pitch timely features, interviews, listicles, and op-eds aligned with Collider’s music strategy.
- Cover breaking stories, trends, artist news, and music/TV/film crossovers.
- Work under tight deadlines and meet submission requirements.
- Incorporate feedback from editors and adhere to Collider's style guide.
- Use SEO best practices to maximize reach and visibility.
- Prior experience in music journalism, entertainment writing, or digital media.
- Strong interest and knowledge across musical genres, especially Rock & Roll.
- Familiarity with major streaming platforms, artist rosters, and fan communities.
- Ability to write opinion-based features, cover viral music moments, artist campaigns, concert/festival news, and industry shifts.
- Passion for pop culture and its relationship with music (e.g., scoring in film/TV, artist crossovers, soundtrack trends).
- Excellent command of the English language with an engaging and adaptable writing voice.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced digital environment and open to editorial feedback.
- Familiarity with music marketing, social media virality (TikTok, Instagram Reels, etc.)
- Experience covering events like Coachella, Lollapalooza, The Grammys, or SXSW.
- Connections with insiders and performers, and a history of conducting interviews with artists.
- Knowledge of platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Bandcamp
