WUSA9, the TEGNA owned CBS affiliate in Washington, DC is looking for a dynamic, innovative & experienced Reporter/Multi-Skilled Journalist with superior reporting and newsgathering skills. We are interested in having a reporter who has experience of cultivating sources and contacts in the community and doesn’t allow anything to get in their way of creating memorable and well-written stories and can tailor them for our platforms. This position will include working weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in a developing story or in breaking news situations
  • Develop story ideas that go beyond press releases
  • Cultivate sources in the community who will keep you informed about events and ideas in their areas of expertise
  • Ability to identify, write and produce stories within a specific framework.
  • Research for facts and credibility.
  • Maintain and develop sources who will help bring our reporting to the next level.
  • Shoot, write, produce and edit on air and online content within deadlines.
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories.
  • Use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.
  • Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
  • Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 7-10 years reporting experience preferred.
  • Must possess solid newsjudgment, display strong communication skills, creativity, andethical decision-making skills.
  • Strong writing skills, writing, shooting and editing skills.
  • Must be organized with the ability to work under constant deadlines.
  • Must be able to calmly handlelive breaking news situations and changing events.
  • Proven social and digital content creation ability.
  • Knowledge of ENPS and Edius
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays

Pay Range

$45.65—$55.30 USD

Benefits

TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
