As a Creative Learning Instructor, you’ll lead fun, hands-on activities that encourage self-expression, problem-solving, and confidence in young students.

Please note: This position begins in Fall 2025 for the 2025–2026 school year.

After School Program Instructor (Part Time)

Safe Passages’ work is based on the premises that access to educational opportunity, health services, and family support, should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status, and when young people have the health and support, they need, they are better prepared and equipped to not only learn, but to succeed.

Safe Passages’ After School Program provides quality enrichment support services to children and youth through a strong youth development framework. Safe Passages is a provider in the delivering of school-based After School Programs within OUSD schools.

Primary Responsibilities:

The After-School Program Instructor will be part of an after-school team dedicated to providing high quality programming to youth and their families. The After School Program Instructor will facilitate activities for students in a structured and supportive environment. Sessions will be delivered in person. The instructor will be supervised by the Safe Passages After School Program Site Coordinator and the After School Program Specialists.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure program safety by implementing and enforcing all School Site and Safe Passages policies.
  • Develop and instruct enrichment activities for youth in social emotional learning, S.T.E.A.M, health and fitness, youth leadership, and social justice. Lesson plans are provided for the first 4 months.
  • Complete weekly lesson plans and submit via Google Classroom.
  • Prepare students for performances or presentations at showcases and family events.
  • Provide youth development best practices, monitor student progress, and collect surveys as appropriate.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and trainings; agency-wide professional development quarterly.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in instructing and facilitating activities for children and youth (volunteer or paid) in an urban K-12 environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement weekly lesson plans.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Teamwork experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Commitment to the entire school year is required.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • At least 48 semester units from an accredited college or passing grade on Instructional Aid.
  • Clear TB test and background (fingerprint) check required.

Employment Classification: Part-time hourly position without benefits.

Work Schedule: 14-25 hours/week, M-F, based on OUSD calendar. Must be available all weekdays.

Candidates must be available for the 2024-2025 school year.

Compensation: $22 - $25/hour, paid weekly, based on education and experience.
