The responsibilities of the Service Writer include:

1. Initiating automotive services and repairs by diagnosing performance problems, verifying warranty and service contract coverage, developing estimates, writing repair orders, and maintaining customer rapport and records.
2. Listening to customer descriptions of symptoms, clarifying problems, conducting inspections, test drives, and examining service schedules to ascertain automotive issues.
3. Verifying warranty and service contract coverage by reviewing records and explaining provisions and exclusions.
4. Developing estimates by calculating costs for materials, supplies, labor, and customer payments, including deductibles.
5. Preparing repair orders by describing symptoms, problems, causes, repairs, and services required; obtaining approvals; and entering data into the service database system.
6. Maintaining customer rapport by explaining estimates, vehicle return times, and handling questions; arranging towing and transportation as needed.
7. Recording problems and corrective actions in automotive records.
8. Updating job knowledge through educational opportunities and reading manufacturer publications.
9. Enhancing the organization's reputation by taking ownership of tasks and exploring opportunities to add value.
10. Performing other duties as assigned.
