About The Role

Public Media Network is seeking a Multimedia Reporter to produce compelling video stories and civic information that reflect the people, places, and experiences of Greater Kalamazoo. Through Amplify Kalamazoo, you'll help elevate untold stories, spotlight local culture and solutions, and connect community members with information that matters in their daily lives.

This role blends hands-on media production with community engagement and education. You'll not only create high-impact content - you'll also design and lead workshops that empower residents to share their own stories through community journalism and civic storytelling.

This is a full-time position ideal for someone who is creative, people-centered, and excited to work at the intersection of media, storytelling, and community empowerment.

What You'll Do

Create Community-Centered Stories

  • Produce video stories, short-form explainers, and ânews you can useâ that inform and connect people to civic life and community solutions.
  • Record and produce regular media segments, special features, and digital updates.
  • Curate and publish content across PMN platforms, including streaming, web, social, and newsletters.
  • Center diverse voices and lived experiences often underrepresented in traditional media.

Lead Storytelling Workshops & Community Training

  • Design and lead training programs and workshops in community journalism and storytelling.
  • Mentor and support community reporters, youth media producers, and citizen storytellers.
  • Help participants develop skills in visual storytelling, civic awareness, and local information sharing.

Engage the Community

  • Participate in community listening to surface story ideas and training needs.
  • Build relationships with individuals, neighborhoods, and organizations to co-create stories.
  • Represent PMN at local events, forums, and community gatherings.

Support the Team

  • Assist with studio operations, equipment checkout, and member/volunteer support.
  • Contribute to collaborative productions, live meeting coverage, and live event coverage.
  • Track the impact of stories and training initiatives to inform future work.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong video storytelling skills with experience in journalism, documentary, or community media.
  • Ability to produce multimedia content independently from concept to final cut.
  • Experience leading or facilitating trainings, workshops, or educational programs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for community-centered media and civic information access.
  • Proficiency with editing tools, camera/audio equipment, and digital platforms.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with Greater Kalamazooâor a strong desire to engage deeply with local communities.
