Mission and objectives

UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work at HQ, Regional, and Country Office levels combines local knowledge with global perspectives and advocacy. The organization invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), which encompasses technical expertise across various knowledge domains to support the Strategic Plan. The Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) within GPN develops policy and guidance, provides technical advice, advocates for UNDP messages, represents UNDP in multi-stakeholder forums, and engages in inter-agency coordination. BPPS collaborates closely with the Crisis Bureau to support emergency responses and integrates risk management into development programs. BPPS promotes innovative, data-driven approaches to enhance development results and supports organizational learning and knowledge sharing. The Governance team within BPPS focuses on anti-corruption, legal identity, inclusive political processes, parliamentary development, elections, SDG 16 monitoring, local development, and youth empowerment.

Context

International Youth Day (IYD), observed annually on August 12th, aims to raise awareness about youth challenges and opportunities worldwide. The 2025 theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” emphasizes youth as active agents in localizing SDGs, highlighting their role in addressing global challenges through local actions. UNDP, as a key implementer of Youth2030, is committed to inclusive youth participation in governance, climate action, digital transformation, and socio-economic empowerment. The IYD 2025 campaign will launch in August 2025, with content later used for other international days like International Day of Democracy and International Peace Day, showcasing youth contributions to sustainable development.

Task Description

UNDP seeks a Lebanese Arabic-to-English translator and transcriber to support the IYD 2025 campaign. The volunteer will transcribe and translate a 90-second interview with a youth activist from the Arab States region, to be used for social media content promoting youth contributions to the SDGs. Responsibilities include:

• Transcribe spoken Lebanese Arabic from a short (~90 seconds) video interview.
• Translate the transcription into clear, accurate English.
• Format the output for easy subtitle integration (e.g., plain text or .srt format guidance).
• Deliver the final work by 28 July.
