The Flight Ops Technical Writer is responsible for standardizing and ensuring the quality of assigned technical, procedural, and/or policy manuals, and electronic checklists, if applicable. Responsibilities include organizing, maintaining, and communicating pilot policies and procedures, including time-critical bulletins and sensitive security information.

  • The Technical Writer maintains familiarity with relevant fleet issues and produces high-quality content as directed by the Team Lead.
  • Interfaces directly with Delta fleet leadership and FAA designees regarding content/manual issues.
  • Translates input from subject matter experts into clear, professional, and highly readable products.
  • Authors revisions for operating manuals, system description manuals, training manuals, checklists, emergency handbooks, and guides for assigned fleet(s).
  • Solicits and incorporates feedback from pilots, instructors, technical professionals, and regulators for continuous improvement.
  • Researches source documents, regulatory information, manufacturer directives, and internal technical documentation.
  • Manages version control of manuals and documentation source control and file management.
  • The role contributes to the airline's safe, on-time performance and Flight Operations objectives.
  • The position reports to the Manager – Technical Writing.
  • Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all processes and procedures.

What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/education is preferred, along with recent experience in aviation technical writing and desktop publishing.
  • Experience as an end-user of aviation technical and operational information is desired.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written. FAA Airframe & Powerplant and/or Private Pilot's License is a plus.
  • Proficiency with common software applications and ability to learn department-specific programs.
  • Customer focus, ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
  • Prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and data.
  • Embraces diversity in people, thinking, and styles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
