Job Summary:

Under the direction of a Branch Manager, Department Head, or Lead Worker in large branch libraries, the Library Assistant II is responsible for providing general library operational support and customer service. Duties include learning and performing various patron support and library functions such as circulation desk activities, shelving materials, assisting patrons with technology, locating materials, processing new library materials (e.g., magazines), applying labels, entering materials into the catalog system, opening and closing the library, among other trained functions.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Library Assistant II is the second level in a four-tier classification series. Positions at this level involve learning, applying, and performing assigned library functions, emphasizing circulation duties, customer service, and technology assistance. They differ from Library Assistant III in expectations, education, and complexity of duties. This classification captures general expectations and the nature of work across similar roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform and participate in circulation functions such as:

• Checking materials out to patrons and into the library
• Shelving returned materials
• Updating library records
• Preparing send lists, filling patron requests, and handling deliveries

Starting salary: $15.78/hr

Hours: 10 hrs/week
