Position Title: On Call Head Audio

Length of Work Year: On Call/Substitute

Salary: $30.00/hour

Department: Madison Center for the Arts

Supervision: Supervised by Technical Director

Reports To: Stage Manager, Technical Director, and Lighting Designer

This position is on-call and activated on a show-by-show basis.

Overview:

The Head of Audio oversees the audio needs for events or shows, ensuring smooth operation. They manage audio systems and structures for crew and production.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience in live audio mixing.
  • Experience with Qlab, TheatreMix, and other professional live entertainment software.
  • Proficiency with Yamaha Digital consoles.
  • Experience with Dante networks and Dante Controller (Dante Level 2 Certification preferred).
  • Knowledge of live entertainment multi-projector systems and programming.
  • Experience with audio and video system network setup and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Shure ULXD and Wireless Workbench is a plus.
  • Ability to work professionally and positively with others.
  • Creative collaboration with design teams, directors, and staff.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software, including maintaining professional paperwork and tracking.
  • Ability to multitask and stay productive.
  • Remain calm and troubleshoot under pressure.
  • Work independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with production staff, designers, and performers for sound setup, operation, and strike, ensuring quality and troubleshooting issues.
  • Ensure safety protocols and industry standards are followed.
  • Serve as the primary audio contact for events or shows.
  • Assist with load-in, setup, operation, and load-out.
  • Manage and maintain audio equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues efficiently under time constraints.
  • Supervise and mentor the audio team.
  • Lead all audio needs for rental events/productions, including testing and maintenance of equipment.
  • Review sound plots for feasibility and implementation.
  • Assist in preparing and installing equipment per specifications.
  • Collaborate on show-related audio paperwork.
  • Keep organized records of design and show files.
  • Ensure proper shutdown of all audio and electrical equipment, leaving the theatre safe and secure.
