Job Summary:

Barnard College seeks a Strategic Writer with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling, and purposeful content. This role is central to maintaining the College’s institutional voice across editorial content, executive messaging, and high-priority initiatives and will reinforce Barnard’s mission, brand identity, and values through every piece of content produced. This position serves a wide range of stakeholders, including prospective students, families, current students, faculty, staff, alumnae, and the Board of Trustees.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Production and Development: Produce and write high-impact content including features, announcements and speeches

  • Executive Communications: Draft talking points, and op-eds for senior leaders within the College. This often involves working under tight deadlines and requires a keen understanding of executive priorities and messaging objectives.

  • Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborate with internal partners to ensure alignment with institutional goals and audience priorities

  • Branding: Maintain editorial consistency and brand tone across platforms and across the College

  • Messaging Strategy: Contribute to messaging strategy and editorial planning

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in journalism, executive communications, or strategic public affairs writing

  • Exceptional command of tone, structure, and narrative flow

  • Experience writing for senior leadership and tailoring voice for multiple formats

  • Strong understanding of message alignment and institutional voice

  • Ability to work flexible hours; must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required.

This job is currently a hybrid position, but may require a presence in the office up to five times a week for team and full staff meetings, events, and other times as directed by the supervisor.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
