The Simon & Schuster Design and Digital Content Development team is hiring a desktop publishing assistant to help us make great books.
The assistant will focus heavily on corrections, conversions, and backlist reprints.
Responsibilities include:
- Making corrections to existing files
- Resizing files into new trim sizes
- Reviewing and updating older file assets to meet current design standards and guidelines
- Logging and reviewing files for reprint requests, ensuring timely management of due dates and schedules
- Creating reduction or enlargement samples
- Reviewing files for design consistency, page makeup, and compliance with in-house standards and preflight requirements
- Sending final files to print vendors
- Reviewing final proofs for compliance with provided production specs and industry-standard print guidelines
- Archiving final interior title assets
The candidate should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, this person must be able to manage their time well.
Requirements:
- Expert in Adobe InDesign - essential skill; candidates without InDesign experience will not be considered
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator
- Knowledge of proofreader’s marks
- Familiarity with book composition standards

The hiring salary range applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and other geographies. Starting pay depends on various factors including location, experience, training, and education.
