The Specifications Writer - Division 8 Construction is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining technical specifications for construction projects, with a primary focus on doors, windows, and related hardware. This role ensures alignment with project goals, budgets, and regulatory requirements while working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and suppliers. The role also involves managing the quality and accuracy of all specification documents related to Division 8, as well as staying updated on industry trends and innovations

Essential Functions
• Lead the creation and maintenance of detailed and accurate specifications for Division 8 materials, ensuring they meet project requirements, budget constraints, and relevant building codes.
• Coordinate with suppliers and branch personnel to evaluate product options, limitations, and availability.
• Review architectural drawings and documentation, performing quality assurance checks on all specifications to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with building standards.
• Stay current on industry trends, materials, and emerging technologies in Division 8, 10, and 28, incorporating these insights into specifications and providing recommendations based on performance, cost, and sustainability.
• Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all specifications and revisions and prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Other relative duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• Associate's Degree, or higher, in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 2 years of experience in similar role
• Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) Certification or equivalent (preferred)
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test in accordance with federal, state, and local laws

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes, and legal regulations.
• Familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint software and specification writing tools
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. It routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing systems. Occasional business travel may be required.
