Job Overview
We’re seeking a Director of Design - UX and UI to lead design strategy and execution across Brook's digital health products and experiences. This role will shape how patients, providers, and care teams interact with our platform, creating intuitive experiences that drive clinical outcomes and user engagement. You'll build and mentor a design organization while establishing design systems that scale across our B2B2C and B2B product portfolio.
You will:
- Define the north-star experience that aligns with clinical, engagement, and commercial goals.
- Establish, build, and mentor a multidisciplinary team, instituting best-practice DesignOps, research cadences, and career ladders.
- Partner deeply with Product, Engineering, Data, Clinical, and Compliance to ship beautiful, accessible, and clinically sound solutions.
- Own Brook’s design-system ecosystem, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and rapid scaling.
This role reports to the Chief Product Officer and sits on the Product leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Design Leadership
- Define and execute UX/UI vision for Brook's product experiences, aligning design strategy with clinical outcomes and business objectives
- Establish design principles and standards that balance consumer-grade usability with healthcare compliance requirements
- Lead design transformation initiatives leveraging AI/ML to personalize patient experiences and streamline provider workflows
- Drive accessibility standards ensuring inclusive design for diverse patient populations including elderly and disabled users
- Translate regulatory (HIPAA, FDA, ADA) and clinical requirements into intuitive, scalable experiences.
Design System and Architecture
- Establish design guidelines for seamless workflow across all Brook product interfaces - Care delivery, population health management, analytics and insights, and patient-facing apps.
- Develop playbooks that ensure new features fit coherently into Brook’s broader healthcare-technology stack.
Research, Data & Insights
- Stand up a mixed-methods research practice—field studies, diary tests, unmoderated UX testing—that feeds directly into prioritization. Deploy the latest in AI-
- Partner with Data Analytics to instrument products and create dashboards highlighting friction points and outcome metrics.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Management
- Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Sales, Partner Success, Clinical, and external stakeholders to balance usability, feasibility, and viability.
- Manage vendor and agency relationships to augment capacity or specialized skills (e.g., accessibility audits, animation).
Market & Competitive Analysis
- Monitor healthcare UX trends, accessibility guidelines, and design-system innovations; adjust strategy to keep Brook ahead.
- Conduct ongoing competitive audits to identify whitespace opportunities and de-risk design decisions.
Operational Excellence
- Serve as Design Owner within agile squads; ensure design deliverables meet Definition of Ready/Done and ship on schedule.
- Implement KPIs for design quality (defect rate, component reuse, accessibility compliance) and iterate on process improvements.
- Hire, onboard, and coach designers; run weekly critiques and individual growth plans.
- Foster a feedback-rich, psychologically safe culture with clear performance expectations and recognition rituals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and7+ yearsof professional UX/UI experience, with 5+ years leading multi-disciplinary design teams in healthcare, fintech, or other domains with a diverse range of users, contexts, and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in design-system architecture and governance across multiple brands or product lines.
- Fluency in quant & qual research, product-discovery frameworks (double diamond, JTBD, opportunity solution trees).
- Executive-level verbal & written communication; able to influence C-suite and Board on design investment trade-offs.
- Portfolio demonstrating measurable impact on business and/or clinical outcomes—not just visual polish.
- Experience with conversational interfaces and AI-driven interactions (chat, predictive UX) is a plus.
- Comfortable with uncertainty, rapid change, and distributed teams; able to provide a steady hand while moving very fast.
- Believe deeply in the need for transparency and promote trust and empowerment through open access to information.

This position is not eligible for relocation or visa sponsorship. Candidates must live within a commuting distance from the office. This is a hybrid role, onsite in the office required weekly along with remote work.
