About Our Agency: South Carolina ETV (SCETV) is the state's public educational broadcasting network. SCETV amplifies South Carolina voices, provides educational experiences, and strengthens communities while working to create a stronger, more connected, and informed South Carolina. SCETV provides national and local content to classrooms via internet services Knowitall.org and PBS Learning Media. SCETV also offers teacher training and re-certification in face-to-face and online settings.
Job Purpose: Under limited supervision of the News Director, initiates and executes vividly told, strongly reported stories for radio, web, and television while collaborating with other team members to further build news coverage for South Carolina ETV and Public Radio.
Job Responsibilities: Reports, writes, and produces daily and long-form news content on issues pertaining to South Carolina for radio and digital audiences. Content includes feature stories, newscasts, web stories, interviews, social media posts, podcasts, and occasional specials for broadcast. Develops relationships with news agencies, government, law enforcement, the public, and other sources. Pitches ideas to national outlets, as appropriate. Covers breaking news, demonstrating quick thinking. Monitors various communication channels for information, especially during emergencies. Serves as a backup host for programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Participates in on-air pledge drives. Archives and tracks produced material with accurate metadata. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements: High school diploma and experience or education in radio or television production.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or relevant field. At least two years' experience in reporting and producing broadcast content, meeting deadlines and ethical standards. Knowledge of South Carolina Public Radio's content and mission is preferred.
