About this position

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) is seeking a strategic and dynamic Communications and PR Manager to elevate our thought leadership and visibility with mainstream finance and impact investing audiences. This role is pivotal in shaping and amplifying the GIINs public narrative, generating media coverage that builds awareness of our mission and the impact investing industry, and driving communications campaigns for organizational and industry initiatives.

We're looking for a seasoned storyteller who can connect the dots between impact, finance and innovation, and land those stories in top-tier media.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the PR Manager will collaborate closely with internal teams, GIIN members, partners and media to create compelling narratives and drive the global conversation around financial markets and impact investing. You'll join a communications and marketing team of storytellers and strategists all passionate about and committed to building a better world.

This is a unique opportunity for a media-savvy communicator with 5+ years of experience to help scale impact investing to solve the most pressing social and environmental problems of our time.

Core functions and responsibilities:

Media Strategy & Relations

  • Develop and pitch compelling story ideas that highlight the GIINs leadership, amplify the voices of impact investors and elevate the people and places benefiting from impact investing.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with key journalists, editors and producers, particularly across business, finance and sustainability media.
  • Drive strategic media placements to reinforce the GIIN's reputation as a field-builder and authority in impact investing.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to generate press-worthy moments that amplify the GIINs voice and increase visibility for the field.
  • Lead media relations for GIINs events.
  • Manage inbound media requests including but not limited to interviews, speaking engagements and commentary opportunities.
  • Support the organization in managing rapid response and reputational risk moments.

Strategic Communications

  • Create and implement proactive PR and external communications plans for key initiatives across the organization.
  • Translate complex topics like research findings, data insights and finance concepts into accessible and engaging narratives for a range of external audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to surface insights and stories that showcase the GIINs impact and relevance.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including GIIN members, to align on key messaging that bolsters a compelling industry narrative.

Content Development

  • Draft a range of communications materials, including press releases, talking points, blog posts, media briefings, FAQs, presentations, speaker proposals and more.
  • Support the development of high-quality written assets for thought leadership and brand communications, including annual reports and campaign materials.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant communications and/or public relations experience; agency or newsroom experience preferred.
  • Bachelors degree required, ideally in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify and humanize complex issues.
  • Experience working with international organizations and stakeholders is a plus, including working with media based outside of the U.S.
  • Deep understanding of traditional and digital media, with a track record of successful media placements.
  • Strong grasp of the current media landscape, with an instinct for what makes a story newsworthy.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on deadline.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Commitment to human dignity, justice, equality, and respect. The GIIN considers the values of human dignity, equality, justice and respect to be central to the work it does as a champion of impact investing. The GIIN believes that upholding these ideals is a global imperative and is an essential purpose of impact investing. While the challenges associated with these values are experienced differently across cultures, nations, and societies, they are fundamental to a shared human experience and the building of strong communities, a healthy world, and a sustainable future for all people. Successful candidates will be committed to continuous learning about human dignity, justice, equality, and respect and how to manifest these principles in the workplace.
  • Creative, resourceful and curious with a forward-thinking mindset and an eye for storytelling opportunities.
  • Knowledge of impact investing and/or sustainable finance strongly preferred.

Location

This position will be based in our New York City office with significant remote work flexibility offered through the GIINs hybrid in-person/remote work model. Candidates must possess valid authorization to work in the United States that does not require employment visa sponsorship.

Compensation

The GIIN is committed to pay equity. The salary range for this role is between $62,000-$75,000, with exact salary depending on experience, with an excellent benefits package.

We aim to offer competitive salaries and benefits and are committed to equality, trust, and consistency in compensation. Basing compensation on someones willingness and ability to negotiate or on their prior salary can lead to unfair outcomes in how people are paid, particularly for individuals experiencing barriers. Therefore, we do not ask for prior pay history from our candidates and our offer-making process is negotiation-free for salaries and benefits.

To apply

Please apply with your cover letter and CV here.

No phone calls, please. Only qualified candidates will be contacted. The GIIN is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
