Position Summary

To support the library's mission to engage students in learning, link people to resources, and provide exceptional service, a reference librarian at St. Charles Community College is expected to offer excellent customer service in reference services and information literacy instruction to students, faculty, and staff. The librarian actively develops the collection to meet curricular needs, creating an accessible, comprehensive, and supportive environment for teaching and learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide research services to students, faculty, and staff in person, virtually, embedded, and through online guides.
• Work with the library director to promote and coordinate instruction programs and outreach efforts, utilizing marketing avenues such as social media.
• Deliver information literacy instruction in various settings, including classroom, online, and using instructional videos, following ACRL guidelines and incorporating emerging technologies like AI.
• Develop and manage print and electronic collections, including requesting new materials, evaluating current collections, and recommending withdrawals.
• Serve as a liaison to faculty in assigned departments to expand the use of library resources and support student learning. Represent the library on college and professional committees and participate in campus events.

Qualifications

A master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Two or more years of relevant full-time experience providing reference assistance and instruction, with familiarity in electronic resource management, are preferred. A strong public service commitment and ability to work in a highly collaborative, diverse environment are essential.
