Job Title: PBS News Digital Fundraising Manager

Reports To: Director of Digital Fundraising

Status: Regular, Exempt, Full-Time

Salary Rate: $65,000 - $70,000

Position Overview

PBS News is seeking a highly motivated Digital Fundraising Manager to lead our efforts in cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and deepening our digital donor base <$1,000. This individual will be a key player in shaping and executing our digital fundraising strategy, driving revenue growth, partnering with PBS News’ major gifts team to grow the $1,000+ donor pipeline, and fostering a vibrant online community of supporters for independent, in-depth journalism.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in digital fundraising, strong proficiency in email and digital marketing, an affinity for data and analytics, and a passion for public media. They will be a strategic thinker, a skilled communicator, and collaborative team player.

Essential Functions

  • Email Marketing & Automation:
  • Develop and manage digital fundraising communications calendar.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive email marketing campaigns across various platforms (e.g., Engaging Networks, Mailchimp, etc.) to cultivate, solicit, and steward PBS News <$1,000 donors and prospects.
  • Develop a comprehensive testing strategy for donors and prospects.
  • Manage email list segmentation, A/B and multi-variate testing, and automated workflows to optimize conversion and engagement rates.
  • Develop onboarding, second gift, sustainer, pre-lapsing, and reactivation strategies, and any marketing automation journeys to support each.
  • Monitor and report on email performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Digital Fundraising Messaging Strategy & Production:
    • Develop and execute a digital messaging strategy specifically tailored for fundraising, aligning with PBS News’ editorial mission and brand voice.
    • Write compelling, donor-centric fundraising copy for emails, website assets, social media, and digital ads.
    • Work with internal teams to identify and repurpose existing messages and develop new messages to support fundraising goals.
    • Collaborate through regular check-ins with senior leadership of PBS News to ensure mission alignment and consistency of goals with editorial mission and brand voice.
  • Website Marketing & Optimization:
    • Strategize and implement fundraising best practices and calls-to-action on the PBS News website, ensuring a seamless user experience and optimized donor pathways.
    • Collaborate with internal web development and content colleagues to ensure fundraising initiatives are integrated effectively into the site's overall strategy.
    • Utilize website analytics to identify and report on trends and opportunities.
    • Develop ongoing testing and optimization plan for landing pages and donation forms to achieve fundraising effectiveness goals.
  • Social Media Marketing & Community Management:
    • Lead and collaborate on the development and execution of social media fundraising and donor and prospect engagement campaigns across platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.).
    • Identify and leverage social media trends and best practices for donor acquisition and retention as well as prospect engagement.
  • Analytics & Reporting:
    • Proficiently utilize native platform reporting in Engaging Networks and Mailchimp, proprietary reporting through our ROI Solutions Revolution CRM and Power BI, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), and Google Tag Manager (GTM) to track, analyze, and report on digital fundraising performance.
    • Leverage other analytics tools to gain a holistic view of campaign effectiveness.
    • Develop clear and actionable reports for internal stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), insights, and recommendations.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage multiple digital fundraising projects simultaneously, ensuring timely execution and adherence to budgets.
    • Develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables for all PBS News digital fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with various teams across PBS News, including editorial, digital, major gifts, marketing/communications, etc.
    • Work in conjunction with fundraising and digital media teams to align fundraising strategies and leverage shared resources where appropriate.

    Core Competencies

    • 3-5 years of experience in digital fundraising, or related field, with a proven track record of increasing digital revenue.
    • Demonstrated expertise in email marketing across multiple platforms, website marketing, and social media marketing, especially on platforms like YouTube and Patreon.
    • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive fundraising copy.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Experience with CRM and eCRM databases (e.g. ROI Solutions Revolution CRM).
    • Proficiency with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM).
    • Passion for public media and independent journalism.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.

    LOCATION:

    WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
