Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Audio-Visual (AV) Technician provides on-site technical support for academic and administrative operations. This includes proactively maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing A/V equipment, computers, and peripheral devices. The A/V Technician will use broad technical expertise to identify, research, resolve, and mitigate technical problems while providing excellent service and support for a wide range of technologies used in classrooms and meeting facilities. The AV Technician provides first-level support to Weatherford College’s students, faculty, and staff, as well as community members and guest speakers. The AV Technical provides technical support and coordinates between departments for special events. This position is an on-premise job that, depending on business needs, will require working occasional evening and weekend shifts.

The AV Technician is expected to work collaboratively with and take direction from senior Technology Services staff on duties that are designed to assist in AV/Technology projects while at the same time providing learning opportunities in AV/Technology disciplines.

  • Basic understanding of current technology.
  • Basic understanding of standard video and audio editing applications.
  • Knowledge of how to effectively operate video and audio equipment.
  • Basic understanding of standard software applications.
Required Education

Associate’s degree or equivalent

Preferred Education

2 year degree in audio-visual or related field

Required Experience

Experience supporting AV.

Preferred Experience

Experience supporting AV in a college setting, filming experience, knowledge of computer video and audio systems

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an exceptional level of customer service to faculty, staff, and students while also completing assigned tickets and tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and support smart classroom systems.
  • Train faculty in the use of smart classroom systems.
  • Convert different audio or video sources into a new format.
2. Provide support for College Events
  • Setup of video/audio equipment or filming/streaming classroom presentations, events, board meetings, public speakers, concerts, sporting events, and more.
  • Edit audio or video digital video files.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekend shifts, dependent on business needs. In relation, shift flexibility is available upon management approval.
3. Support AV/Technology projects by providing assistance in the following areas:
  • Run/install different AV and network cabling.
  • Move, Install, configure, program, and/or set up smart classroom systems.
  • Configure and distribute AV and Technology Equipment.
  • Documenting, escalating, and assisting senior staff with complex AV issues utilizing standard support and problem resolution procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of A/V and computing equipment.
4. Assist with the Technology Services help desk as needed
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with Wifi access for computers and devices.
  • Respond to student account and access management issues.
  • Provide basic support to the Online Learning System.
  • Assist with basic printing, copying, and scanning issues.
  • Respond to general questions and advise students regarding their technology.
  • Document issues with an electronic service ticket that contains all required information.
