Overview:

Abrons Arts Center's Arts Education Program is seeking a dance educator to design and instruct a beginner and advanced beginner intergenerational (ages 7 and up) salsa class for our Fall 2025 Semester. The classes will take place at our Lower East Side arts center.

You are:

  • A facilitator with a strong ability to teach diverse learners of all ages and backgrounds
  • Creative, confident, and highly skilled at designing arts curriculum that uplifts community members through the arts
  • Highly collaborative and able to work cooperatively with the arts education team in problem-solving
  • Enthusiastic and interested in contemporary arts practices and arts education innovation
  • Committed to submitting lesson plans, time sheets, supply orders, and other administrative documents in a timely manner
  • Excited to continue growing your artistic practice in tandem with your teaching artistry

You have:

  • 5+ years of dance education experience
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary Latin dance, particularly genres grown and popularized in New York City i.e., Salsa, and Mambo
  • Enthusiasm for and experience working with intergenerational learners in a studio setting
  • Proficiency in writing, designing and facilitating arts education curriculum
  • Proficiency in social-emotional learning methods
  • Confident in conflict mediation, de-escalation, and classroom management skills
  • Social adaptability and ability to work with a range of learning styles
  • Experience leading choreographic devising processes and developing choreography for ensembles

You will support the Abrons Arts Education Program by:

  • Developing and implementing an innovative curriculum of salsa dance for beginners and advanced beginners that includes instruction on musicality, shines, and partner work
  • Cultivating a classroom environment that is consent-based and affirming to learners of all gender’s identities, body types, and technical skill levels
  • Being responsive to learning styles and being committed to building a sense of community and belonging
  • Having demonstrated an interest in professional development and growth of teaching artistry

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Must be New York City based and be present on-site to instruct classes
  • Possessing or being open to receiving de-escalation training
  • Must be able to move throughout our 40,000+ square foot facility that includes stairs, ramps, indoor and outdoor spaces.
