During the academic year, this position will require attendance at events during some weekends and evenings in addition to activities and duties occurring during the business day.
General Description:
Pacific Lutheran University, a vibrant regional university rooted in Lutheran education values, seeks a dynamic and versatile Multimedia Content Producer to join our experienced marketing and communications team. This role will be instrumental in telling the compelling stories of our university, its students, faculty, and impact on the wider community. The Multimedia Content Producer will serve as a primary content creator, campus “beat reporter,” and contributor to both internal and external communications efforts. This individual will be deeply engaged in the life of the university, identifying and developing engaging content across various media, with a strong emphasis on exceptional writing. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, collaborative, and adaptable professional with a passion for higher education and the ability to work under short deadlines during the academic year. The position reports to the Director of Digital Communications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Reporting:
- Serve as a proactive “beat reporter” for the university, identifying and developing news and feature stories across a wide range of campus activities, academic achievements, student life, and faculty research.
- Write compelling and accurate articles for digital platforms (website, e-newsletters), print publications, and other communication channels.
- Conduct interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community stakeholders to gather information and develop engaging narratives.
- Capture high-quality photographic and video content to accompany written stories and for stand-alone use across university platforms. This may include serving as the primary videographer for select projects.
- Contribute to the development of content for admissions materials, digital advertising, and environmental graphics, ensuring consistent messaging and brand alignment.
- Collaborate with the Advertising Strategist and Assistant Director of Communications on SEO optimization for digital content.
- Maintain a strong understanding of university news, events, and strategic priorities to identify timely and relevant communication opportunities.
- Assist with proofreading and editing content produced by other members of the team as needed.
- Draft and edit communications on behalf of the President’s Office, including emails and presentations.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to develop clear and informative communications regarding personnel benefits and other internal announcements.
- Provide on-site communication support for high-level university events such as University Assembly and Commencement.
- Generate engaging content to highlight campus news and achievements for external audiences.
- Contribute to media relations efforts by identifying potential news stories and working collaboratively with the team on press releases as needed.
- Assist in the development of thought leadership pieces and op-eds for the President and Deans.
- Support efforts to build and maintain positive relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of content that engages current students, prospective students, alumni, and parents, highlighting the university experience and fostering a sense of community.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premier video editing software.
- Familiarity with website content management systems to publish and update content.
- Work effectively with photo library software to organize and manage visual assets.
- Demonstrate a willingness and aptitude to learn and utilize new technologies relevant to communications.
- Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and AP style.
- Demonstrated ability to gather information accurately and efficiently.

- A genuine interest in and appreciation for the mission and values of PLU and Lutheran higher education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field.
- 3 years of related experience.
- Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment background check.
- 3 years of experience reporting news for a commercial media outlet, gathering facts, and writing articles under deadline.
- Knowledge of the higher education landscape.
- 2 years of experience working with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
- Working knowledge of photo library software.
- 3 years of experience with videography, including shooting and editing.
