POSITION OVERVIEW:Kamiakin High School is seeking a qualified and motivated Percussion Music Assistant to support the marching band in the fall and lead the Winter Percussion program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in battery, front ensemble (keyboards), and auxiliary percussion, with a preference for experience in electronic percussion.
This position begins in a supporting role under the direction of the head percussion instructor during the fall season and transitions to a leadership role as the Winter Percussion Director during the winter competitive season.
GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Fall Season (Marching Band – Support Role):Attend all Band Camp rehearsals (2 weeks in late August; dates and times TBD)
Attend all weekly Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday rehearsals
Attend all Thursday/Friday night football games and Saturday competitions
Instruct and support battery and front ensemble students during rehearsals and performances
Assist with electronic and auxiliary percussion elements (preferred)
Maintain and inventory Kamiakin percussion instruments and equipment
Review judge tapes from percussion and battery captions with Band Director
Collaborate closely with percussion staff and full marching band instructional team
Other duties as assigned by Band Director
Winter Season (Winter Percussion – Lead Role):
Serve as Percussion Coordinator and primary instructor for Kamiakin Winter Percussion
Lead rehearsals and performances for both battery and front ensemble
Collaborate with staff and designers to plan and implement competitive winter show
Oversee music and visual instruction, rehearsal planning, and student development
Maintain percussion instruments and electronics for the duration of the winter season
Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding expectations and schedules
Attend all scheduled rehearsals, performances, competitions, and planning meetings
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of two (2) years of percussion coaching or instructional experience
Performance and/or instructional experience in battery, front ensemble (keyboards), and auxiliary percussion
Experience in marching ensembles (high school, drum corps, winter percussion programs, or collegiate level)
Ability to teach percussion fundamentals, musicality, and ensemble technique
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with electronic percussion and sound design (not required but preferred)
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills for competitive music programs
Three current references or recommendation letters
Positive, student-centered teaching philosophy
Strong communication skills with students, parents, and fellow staff
Experience designing or contributing to competitive winter percussion programs.

Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards:While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
Application Procedure: In-District staffmust complete an internal online application by10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date.In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
