Job TitleLibrary Work-Study

Position Summary

- Provide clerical and receptionist support for the West library.- Provide Outstanding Customer service.- Process incoming and outgoing materials.- Provide basic computer and copier assistance.- Shelving and shelf-reading to maintain good order of the stacks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Must be detail oriented and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.- Excellent oral and written communication skills.- Must be proactive and able to engage with a diverse constituency.- Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.- Some college preferred.

Experience

- Computer experience.- Experience in higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Knowledge of administrative system and current software programs.- Knowledge of Microsoft office.- Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including filing.- Type 30 WPM.- Ability to follow University and library policies and procedures.- Ability to learn a variety of procedures.- Ability to take initiative to recognize and foresee needs.- Ability to understand the role and the purpose of the library.- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.- Ability to handle multiple tasks, while meeting deadlines.- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.- Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA regulations.- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of library users.- Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, standard correspondence, and memos.- Ability to write simple correspondence.- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.- Possess a pleasant and clearly understandable phone voice.REASONING ABILITY- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed butuninvolved written/oral instructions.- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
