Job Responsibilities
Prepare for ISF 10+2 filings and notify customers/agents the same day and follow up until BOL match is achieved.
Examine invoices, BOL and other shipping documents at the time receipt for completeness to ensure accurate and timely data entry submission to customs.
Managing the process from A‑Z
Previous experience with weight and conversion
Process entries for clearance of goods into the United States.
Classify based on the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
Ensure compliance with U.S. Government regulatory agencies such as RLF, FDA, EPA, DOT, FCC, USDA, Fish & Wildlife, etc.
Utilize ACE for entry summaries.
Monitor and coordinate movement details with warehouse CFS, trucker, carriers, and rail to customers to ensure cargo delivery in a timely manner.
Pay pier pass & CFS charges as needed for customers.
Prepare documents for T.I.B. and Overtime entry to Customs for clearance.
Create client billing and handle accounting processes accurately in a timely manner.
Make sure any files that can be posted are done right away.
Monitor exam containers (FCL/LCL) and any problem container need to resolve within 30 minutes or at least a week and updated customer's status and informed trucker.
Process ISO in a timely manner.
Maintain teamwork in the department; promote positive work attitudes and practices while being primarily responsible for major customers’ transaction via airfreight and sea freight.
Prioritize, organize and complete tasks in a timely manner
Customs clearance of air and ocean shipments— 5 days prior to arrival or w/I 24 hours of receipt
Issuance of delivery orders – w/I same day of entry processing
Billing – accurate and timely – Billed same day sent w/I 48 hours
OGA (especially FDA) processing – 5 days prior to arrival or w/I 24 hours of receipt
Freight Release – before vessel arrival or w/I 24 hours of receipt. (obl&$)
Determine proper, legal duty rates
Continued work improvement and continuous education of import processes, CBP and OGA Regulations
Interface with Customs and other government agencies.
Assist with the creation of client SOPs
Ensure maximum customer service satisfaction through interaction with clients and other company business units
Ensure compliance of CHB/CBP and OGA policies, procedures and regulations.
Ensure compliance of YLA’s policies and procedures
Communicate effectively with Supervisors, Management, colleagues, Internal and external customers.
Participate and maintain teamwork and a friendly work environment
Recommend solutions to simplify and expedite cargo flow
Staff backup
Assist with training and education of fellow staff, customers and other biz units
Increase profit – Cargo insurance, "best in class service", profit mark-up, etc
Demurrage - Zero tolerance – “Mind Set”
Monitor workload and file distribution
Will be Cross Trained
Skills Required High School Diploma, plus 3-5 years’ experience and/or training as an entry writer or in customs broker operation and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be teachable and eager to learn.
