Position Information

Working Title: Student Assistant – Steely Library Collections and Discovery Services

Work Schedule: Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM. Schedule based on student availability. Maximum of 25 hours per week.

Job Description:

Collections and Discovery Services (CDS) Student Assistants will support the department’s priorities by contributing to projects such as maintaining the government documents collection, weeding physical materials, and processing library materials. As a Federal Depository Library, Steely Library provides free public access, professional assistance, and outreach services to all users, including the public. CDS Student Assistants will help ensure continued access to government information and will be cross-trained in Steely Library’s Access Services Department to support broader operations. This appointment covers the 2025-2026 academic year.

Primary Responsibilities:

Engage in project-based work, including computer data entry, organizing materials, labeling new items, shelving, retrieving materials, maintaining stacks, staffing Public Services Desks, and providing customer service. Additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Responsible, respectful, accountable, dependable, teachable, effective communication and collaboration skills. Desired: Experience with Microsoft Office, excellent customer service, attention to detail, timely task completion, ability to push a book truck up to 75 lbs. Federal Work Study (FWS), Institutional Work Study (IWS), and International Students are encouraged to apply. A pre-employment criminal background check is required by state law.
