Gannett, Indianapolis, Indiana, United States
Housing And Urban Growth Reporter
IndyStar is seeking a housing and urban growth reporter to cover central Indiana's dynamic housing market. This reporter will cover a range of housing-related issues that affect and interest all readers regardless of whether they rent or own, whether they're looking for a new place to live, or whether they just want to keep abreast of the real estate market.
IndyStar is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. You'll work with and learn from some of journalism's best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.
The housing reporter will be expected to cover breaking housing news while ferreting out the best enterprise stories on this beat, using analytics to help guide decisions of what stories to pursue. Coverage can range from issues such as whether the local market has sufficient affordable housing to potential solutions for the unhoused to the latest development plans for suburban luxury homes.
As Indianapolis is a competitive journalism market, a successful reporter will bring a desire to break news first to their work and produce stories other outlets do not have.
Our town may be competitive, but our newsroom is collaborative. This reporter can expect to work with colleagues on a range of beats, particularly the growth and development beat, city hall and community reporters. Every IndyStar reporter is expected to seek out and represent diverse racial, ethnic, and economic perspectives in their work.
Our mission is clear: IndyStar informs, empowers, and inspires the people of Central Indiana with our journalism. We deliver journalism that is essential to the communities we serve with urgency. We are a people-centered newsroom that's obsessed with thoughtful experimentation and developing our next generation of industry leaders.
