Job Description
Position Summary: LTYC is seeking an inspiring and enthusiastic Creative Writing Instructor to lead engaging, age-appropriate writing workshops for students in grades K–8. The ideal candidate will help young writers build confidence and skill through storytelling, poetry, journaling, playwriting, and more. This role is perfect for someone who believes in the power of creative expression and enjoys cultivating young voices. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver interactive creative writing lessons that encourage imagination, originality, and literacy development.
Teach students various writing forms including short stories, poetry, scripts, memoir, and journal writing.
Guide students through the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and sharing.
Encourage peer feedback and create a respectful, supportive workshop environment.
Organize and facilitate student publishing opportunities (class books, zines, readings, or school publications).
Foster a love of reading and writing through diverse literary examples.
Differentiate instruction for various age groups and learning styles.
Collaborate with school staff to integrate writing projects with other subject areas or school themes.
Maintain a creative and organized classroom environment
Requirements
Qualifications:
Degree in Creative Writing, English, Education, or a related field—or equivalent professional writing/teaching experience or has completed at least 30 college credits
At least 3 years of prior experience teaching creative writing to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.
Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.
Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.
Additional Requirements:
Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).
Certifications:
Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
Health Clearance:
A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health , free from communicable diseases (including TB).
Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
