The Accounting Supervisor performs specialized accounting work, administers the Library's financial and accounting systems, and is a key player with the financial records for the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

The Accounting Supervisor aids in the preparation of the Library's financial statement and coordinating the yearly audit. The position supervises the Fiscal Technical and Fiscal Office Assistant. The Accountant will work in concert with and under the supervision of the Library Controller.

This position can be hybrid after 90 days of employment.

Salary: $74,803 to 97,243 annually

Summary of Duties:

The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department or division.

  • Supervises a small bi-weekly payroll, including tax remittances.

  • Prepares, coordinates and oversees all payroll tax returns.

  • Maintains liaison with Library, City and State personnel and agencies.

  • Monitors and reconcile assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses.

  • Maintains and administers accounting system.

  • Assists in maintenance of policies and procedures for the Office of Finance and Procurement.

  • Preparation of annual audited financial statements in conjunction with Controller and second Accounting Supervisor. Statements require consolidation of data from multiple sources.

  • Works directly with auditors to assist in coordination of the annual audit process including preparation of various reconciliations and schedules working with other Library staff.

  • Oversees the treasury function, cash management, account/bank reconciliation and maintaining the control environment.

  • Supervises processing of cash receipts from Library neighborhood locations.

  • Prepares and reconciles cash receipts from donors, grantors, credit cards and miscellaneous revenue sources.

  • Administration of credit card program.

  • Maintains the Chart of Accounts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in business, finance, accounting or a related field.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a complex accounting environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience strongly desired.

  • Accounting experience in a government or non-profit agency.

  • Experience with MIP.

  • Experience with Workday.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of principles of accounting, GASB, and GAAP in a non-profit or governmental setting.

  • Technical knowledge, proficiency, and hands on ability in automated accounting systems administration and operation (MIP preferred).

  • Maintenance of Chart of Account and Accounting Systems. Demonstrated communication and customer service skills.

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation including consolidation in an automated environment.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Library staff, administrators and city and state officials.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office including Excel and Word.

  • Experience coordinating all activities related to an external audit.

  • Collaboration skills and a team player.

Position of Trust: Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
