Job Summary
The Music Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students in K-12 Music classes. The teacher performs instructional and related duties in accordance with state and district standards in music education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Understand the requirements related to state and district standards in music education.
- Develop course goals aligned with standards.
- Use appropriate teaching techniques to meet standards.
- Employ a variety of classroom techniques and methods.
- Promote high achievement levels based on individual student ability.
- Use methodologies suitable for student abilities.
- Utilize district curriculum and supplementary materials.
- Apply research-based principles of effective instruction.
- Organize instruction with clear learning objectives.
- Implement teaching strategies aligned with student outcomes.
- Monitor student progress and adjust pace accordingly.
- Create an environment conducive to learning.
- Establish and enforce classroom behavior rules.
- Communicate course goals and expectations to students and parents.
- Ensure health and safety in all instructional settings.
- Prepare lesson plans effectively.
- Provide instruction based on course objectives.
- Set and communicate grading standards clearly.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Document student progress and maintain records.
- Provide timely feedback to students and parents.
- Encourage motivation and interest in music education.
- Stay current with activities in music education.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth.
- Participate in district professional development.
- Contribute to school activities outside the classroom.
- Oversee musical group activities and trips.
- Meet with booster clubs as needed.
- Plan concert programs and facilities requests.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from an accredited institution.
- Valid license from TSPC in Oregon.
- Proficiency in English.
- Musical skills and knowledge to teach the curriculum.
Physical Demands
In an 8-hour workday, the physical demands include occasional standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive arm and hand movements. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
