Job Title: Music Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Dept./School: Menchaca Early Childhood Center

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale/187 Days

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Work with administrators, classroom teachers, and support staff to plan and implement instruction. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned (Music K-12), or
  • Valid Teaching Permit

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, interpersonal skills, organization skills, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to complete time-sensitive matters
  • Effective team skills for collaboration with staff, students, and parents

Experience:

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

General:

  • Demonstrate thoroughness, reliability, and accuracy in work assignments.

Instructional Strategies:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for distance or virtual learning, with evidence of preparation, accommodating individual student needs.
  • Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources reflecting understanding of learning styles and needs.
  • Prepare lessons with accommodations for learning style differences.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, policies, and regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional activities and materials suited to students' learning styles.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers for curriculum modifications per IEPs.
  • Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods.
  • Supervise assignments of aides and volunteers.
  • Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Student Growth and Development:

  • Provide ongoing feedback on student achievement.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support campus and district goals.
  • Assist students in improving study methods and habits.
  • Conduct assessments of student achievement.
  • Manage extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Create a conducive learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students and property.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.

Communication:

  • Be available for communication with district personnel, students, and parents during designated hours.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and students to monitor progress.
  • Conduct conferences and maintain professional relationships.
  • Attend campus events and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Use effective communication skills.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in staff development activities.

Other:

  • Stay informed of regulations and policies.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned aides, if any.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Communicate effectively. Physical demands include standing, stooping, bending, lifting moderate weight, and other mobility tasks.
