As Associate Director, Photography, you’ll lead the photography team, driving the creation of high-quality, technically proficient, and visually compelling content to showcase the Four Hands brand. This role balances hands-on creative execution with team leadership, overseeing daily studio operations, setting clear priorities, and ensuring all work aligns with brand strategy, timelines, and creative standards. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to support ongoing studio innovation while also supporting team development.
In This Role
- Lead high-impact photography shoots, blending hands-on expertise and creative oversight to deliver visually compelling, brand-aligned content
- Ensure all photography aligns with brand standards, creative direction, and business objectives across product, lifestyle, and editorial shoots; providing retouching notes when needed
- Drive innovation by facilitating brainstorming sessions and contributing industry knowledge and experience to inspire new creative approaches
- Contribute to strategic planning, identifying opportunities to scale creative output, optimize resources, and support business growth through visual content
- Oversee photo equipment operations, including purchasing, organization, and on-set lighting approvals to maintain technical quality and efficiency
- Collaborate with creative, marketing, styling, and merchandising teams to translate brand vision that aligns with campaign and content goals
- Partner with Director of Photography to establish guidelines to create consistency across all studio photography, video, and location shoots; including workflow improvements, technology upgrades, and team development strategies to elevate overall studio performance
- Navigate organizational changes with clear communication and stakeholder engagement

The Ideal Person
- 10+ years experience as a photographer, with focus on styling
- Proven leadership in directing photographers and studio teams, with a strong eye for detail and commitment to quality
- Proficient in Capture One Pro and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom) for retouching review, file handling, and post-production coordination
- Portfolio showcasing strategic thinking and execution in branding, content creation, and creative leadership
- Deep understanding of commercial photography practices, lighting techniques, and studio production workflows, including industry trends and innovations in technology
- Familiarity with digital asset management systems and post-production pipelines
- Knowledge of e-commerce and editorial content needs across digital and print platforms
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, troubleshoot on set, and maintain composure under pressure
