What This Role Is Really About

You're helping Discord build safer developer-facing tools—like their public API and SDKs—by embedding safety and trust directly into the design. This role is about proactive safety and policy development , not just reactive enforcement.

It combines policy expertise , tech understanding , and cross-functional collaboration with product, legal, compliance, and engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with teams to identify and mitigate safety risks in Discord’s developer tools (API, SDKs, third-party integrations).
  • Own and evolve Developer Policies that govern how external devs can use Discord’s platform.
  • Evaluate product changes with Safety XFN to ensure policy alignment and enforcement is viable.
  • Develop training materials , internal safety strategy guides , and user-facing content (blog posts, Help Center articles).
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Discord’s tools, infrastructure, developer ecosystem, and moderation mechanisms.
Heads up: The role may involve exposure to graphic or sensitive content , typical in Trust & Safety domains.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Have:

  • 3+ years working with APIs, SDKs, app stores, or other third-party platforms.
  • Background in Trust & Safety , Tech Policy , or advocacy (especially for marginalized communities ).
  • Experience engaging cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Engineering , and more.
  • Strong writing skills, both internal-facing (guides, playbooks) and user-facing (blog posts, policies).
  • A mindset of empathy, collaboration, and curiosity .
  • Some programming knowledge (e.g., REST APIs, basic scripting)
  • Familiarity with Discord’s platform and community
  • Experience in international safety policy or multilingual capabilities
  • Work in non-profits or community advocacy groups
  • Understanding of safety issues in open platforms and ecosystems

Why This Role Matters

As Discord grows its developer ecosystem , there’s increasing need for preemptive safety design . This role is crucial in balancing innovation with user protection , and you’d be shaping how third-party apps and bots interact with 200+ million monthly users.

Should You Apply?

You should strongly consider applying if:

You’ve worked on API platforms , app ecosystems , or SDK safety

You’re comfortable with ambiguous, evolving tech/policy environments

You have a deep commitment to user protection and ethical design

You enjoy writing, research, and engaging with diverse stakeholders
