POSITION TITLE: Elementary Band and General Music Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

LOCATION: Elementary Schools

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION GOAL: Plan and implement age appropriate lessons meeting the needs of individuals enrolled in the elementary band/general music program and create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, while establishing effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation to become lifelong musicians; and establish positive relationships with parents, staff and community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide instruction based on district-approved curriculum.

• Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans to meet individual student needs.
• Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians by means of conferences, notes, phone calls, email and newsletters.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. Identify pupil needs, make appropriate referrals, and participate in developing strategies for individual education plans.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Create a functional and organized environment for learning.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Pennsylvania Music Education K-12 Certification.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
• Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
• Well organized with good time management skills.
• Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
• Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.

Terms Of Employment

• 190 days, 7 hours 30 minutes per day.
• Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Roberts Education Association.
• Bachelor's Degree starting $58,000; Master's Degree starting $64,000; Final salary determined by education and experience.
