Verland is now accepting applications for a Communication Therapy Aide to join the team at our Main Campus in Sewickley, PA. The Communication Aide / Restorative Communication Aide (CTA) will provide non-clinical support to the licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in a variety of therapy and educational/classroom settings. This role helps facilitate communication-focused interventions by assisting with preparation, organization, delivery of materials, technology support (e.g., AAC devices), documentation assistance, and in-session support as directed by the supervising SLP. The CTA is empowered to assure that assigned individuals receive appropriate, individualized communication services to facilitate active treatment by way of an efficient Interdisciplinary Process. This position is non-clinical and does not involve independent assessment, diagnosis, treatment, or planning of speech-language services. The Communication Aide works under the supervision and direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and will not engage in tasks reserved for credentialed professionals. This is a hourly position.

Shift Available

Full Time - 40 hours

8am-4:30pm - Monday - Friday

Contributions

  • Assist in the preparation, setup, and cleanup of therapy sessions, including organizing therapy materials, visuals, and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices.
  • Provide in-session support by modeling use of communication devices, prompting patients/clients per SLP direction, and managing environmental needs.
  • Assist with data entry, documentation support, and clerical tasks as assigned by the SLP.
  • Support AAC trials by setting up equipment, managing accessories (e.g., mounting systems), observing usage under SLP supervision and carryover across environments.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute observational feedback as appropriate and permitted.
  • Assist the Speech Language Pathologist and Interdisciplinary Team as necessary to review goals, mealtime observations, communication goals, as well as report findings.
  • Provide services in the areas of oral motor development as directed by the SLP
  • Provide training/in-service orientation to designated staff regarding feeding procedures and other pertinent training as identified by the Interdisciplinary Team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, education major preferred
    • Experience may be accepted in lieu of education
  • Experience working with individuals with communication challenges, disabilities, or assistive technology is a plus.
  • Comfort with basic technology and willingness to learn AAC-related software/hardware.
  • Requires familiarity with Windows operating systems, email communication, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • On-the-job training is provided by Speech Language Pathologist, Habilitation Services Manager and other related personnel on various treatment techniques and interdepartmental methods and procedures.
