Position Summary:
The Grant Writer is a key member of the Development team,responsible for securing private and public funding by researching, writing,and submitting compelling proposals and grant applications that support theorganization’s mission, programs, and strategic initiatives. The Grant Writerwill also prepare timely reports, cultivate funder relationships, andcollaborate closely with program staff to ensure strong alignment betweenprogram needs and funding opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Writing & Management
- Research,write, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, andreports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Maintaina calendar of proposal and report deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
- Trackproposal outcomes and funder communications in CRM/Raisers Edge.
Funder Stewardship & Cultivation
- Supportthe cultivation and stewardship of grant funders by draftingacknowledgment letters, updates, and impact communications.
- Participatein funder meetings and site visits, as appropriate.
Program Collaboration
- Workclosely with program directors and finance staff to gather data, budgets,and narratives for proposals and reports.
- Translateprogram goals and impact into compelling case statements andoutcomes-focused language.
Prospect Research
- Identifynew funding opportunities that align with Living Classrooms’ mission,programs, and strategic priorities.
- Conductresearch on foundation, corporate, and government funders to informengagement strategies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum3–5 years of grant writing experience, preferably in a nonprofit oreducation-focused setting.
- Provensuccess securing grants from foundations, corporations, and/or governmentagencies.
- Exceptionalwriting, editing, and storytelling skills with a clear, concise, andpersuasive style.
- Strongproject management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Knowledgeof philanthropy, funding trends, and grant research tools.
- Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite and experience with donor databases (RaisersEdge preferred).
- Passionfor education, workforce development, and community empowerment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experiencewith federal grant applications (e.g., DOJ, DOL) is a plus.
- Familiaritywith outcome-based reporting and logic models.
