Job Description
CD PROJEKT RED is seeking a Lead Lighting Artist to join our Boston studio for the development of Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. In this role, you will leverage your expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and passion for cinematic storytelling through lighting to build and lead an exceptional team of lighting artists.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead the lighting team to deliver high-quality, emotionally impactful cinematic lighting.
- Manage team members through reviews, setting clear deliverables, and maintaining motivation and productivity.
- Recruit, mentor, and guide the team, fostering a culture of creativity, trust, and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with Directors and Production to plan and estimate work, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Monitor progress and communicate any blockers to ensure smooth workflow.
Artistic Vision & Execution
- Work closely with the Art Director to uphold the artistic vision of the game.
- Participate in aesthetic discussions and problem-solving.
- Support gameplay, cinematics, and environment teams with outstanding lighting solutions.
- Ensure lighting solutions are performant and within technical constraints.
- Take ownership of some lighting tasks to lead by example.
Pipeline Development & Technical Problem Solving
- Lead the development of a streamlined lighting pipeline for the team.
- Engage in technical discussions to solve problems and develop tools that optimize workflows and advance real-time lighting technology.
Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience in the game industry, including one shipped AAA title.
- Proven leadership as a Lead Lighting Artist with mentoring experience.
- Deep understanding of performance optimization for real-time lighting.
- Strong knowledge of PBR and real-time rendering techniques.
- Expertise in Unreal Engine 5.
- A portfolio demonstrating artistic principles like color theory, composition, and storytelling through light.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- Curiosity, kindness, initiative, and a positive, professional attitude.

This position is based in Boston, US, with in-office hybrid or full-time work options.
