Salary: $20.50/hr - 23.50
Schedule: Part-Time / 16 hours a week
Summary:
The Music Therapist / KClub Activities Assistant – Assisted Living is responsible for assisting in the design and delivery of music-based and general activities that enhance the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of residents in the Assisted Living neighborhood. This position supports the Activities Coordinator by leading individual and group sessions that promote engagement, memory support, emotional expression, and overall quality of life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, developing, and leading music-based and recreational activities for individual, small, medium, and large groups of residents.
Facilitate therapeutic music activities such as singing, instrument play, movement-to-music, and creative expression to support residents’ cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.
Prepare rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to activities and ensure proper clean-up afterward.
Encourage resident and family participation in music therapy and activities.
Transport residents safely to and from activity areas as needed.
Assist in creating monthly activity calendars and maintaining documentation, including attendance records, activity logs, and progress notes.
Support community communications through newsletters, mailings, bulletin boards, and seasonal displays.
Collaborate with the Activities Coordinator to evaluate program effectiveness, resident engagement, and satisfaction; recommend improvements as needed.
Participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay current with best practices.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong communication skills for interacting with residents, families, and team members.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Time management and organizational skills to plan and lead multiple activities effectively.
Knowledge of basic music therapy principles and techniques, especially for seniors or individuals with memory impairment.
Creativity and flexibility to adapt activities for residents with varying abilities.
Computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic familiarity with activity or resident management systems.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or experience in music, music therapy, recreational therapy, or related field preferred.
Experience leading music or activity programs in assisted living, senior care, or similar settings preferred.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with people of all ages and abilities.
Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to community dress code standards.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties, including standing, walking, and lifting.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move short and long distances for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds; push residents or equipment up to 200 pounds as needed.
Manual dexterity to handle instruments and activity materials.
Visual and auditory ability to conduct music therapy and activity sessions safely and effectively.
Ability to assist residents in emergency situations.
Ability to remain calm, positive, and professional in stressful situations.
