Description
The Structural Designer is responsible for developing innovative packaging solutions. They have expertise and an understanding of the principles of creating durable packaging or displays that are not only visually appealing but also practical, durable, and cost-effective.
Our in-house Structural Designers develop packaging designs using CAD software, selecting appropriate materials and considering manufacturing processes. They create mock-ups to test functionality and fit. Once the structural design specifications are set, they collaborate with Graphic Designers to combine graphics with functionality, ensuring the final packaging is visually appealing and structurally sound.
Responsibilities :
- Design custom packaging solutions using ArtiosCAD; create prototypes and layouts that meet customer specifications and performance goals.
- Determine optimal material use, sizing, and palletization with TOPS or CAPE software.
- Create prototypes and conduct small test runs using the Kongsberg cutting table.
- Collaborate with Account Managers, Customer Service, and Production to ensure designs meet technical and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate spec sheets and manage project timelines using internal systems.
- Order, quote, and track tooling for production use.
- Support lab functions and conduct on-site packaging audits for customers.
- Partner with Sales during customer visits to present solutions and gather requirements.
- Continuously improve existing packaging designs with cost-effective, performance-driven enhancements.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging or Industrial Design preferred, with 2-5 years of packaging design experience.
- Proficient in ArtiosCAD, TOPS / CAPE, Microsoft Office, and sample cutting table operations.
- Knowledge of corrugated packaging, printing, tooling, and plant machinery.
- Strong 3D visualization, math, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and represent the company externally.
