Freelance Look Dev Artist



MetaBull Entertainment is seeking a talented Freelance Look Dev Artist to join our rapidly growing team. You'll play a pivotal role in migrating high-quality, studio-grade characters from Maya into Blender 4.5, ensuring the original artistic intent is respected and preserved. This is an ongoing engagement. MetaBull is located in Los Angeles, but the role can be performed remotely.



Role Overview

You will act as the Technical Look Dev Manager for character assets, guiding each model from its Maya origin to Blender. Your expertise is needed to ensure the fidelity of textures and materials, shaders, lighting, and rendering in Blender match the original vision.



Key Responsibilities

• Analyze Maya files, extract shading networks, texture maps, lighting setups, and animation controls.

• Recreate and optimize shaders in Cycles and EEVEE, matching albedo, roughness, normal, subsurface, and custom map workflows.

• Set up and fine-tune lighting rigs in Blender to replicate Maya renders, balancing production speed and visual quality.

• Troubleshoot geometry, UV, and texture issues during the translation process.

• Document best practices, look-dev recipes, and pipeline guidelines for cross-team reference.

• Deliver final. blend files with consolidated assets, version control tagging, and clear scene hierarchies.

• Provide guidance and leadership in defining animation workflows.
