The Systems & Discovery Librarian is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenured, promotion-earning faculty position. Reporting to the Dean of the Library, this librarian works both independently and collaboratively with a team of librarians and staff, to manage and optimize library systems, improve resource discovery, and provide instruction and research consultation services to students, faculty, and staff. The position focuses on supporting the effective use of information resources, including electronic resources, and instructional technology in teaching, learning, and research. They primarily support the Natural Science Division. Additionally, this librarian plays a key role in overseeing the discovery tools and library systems, ensuring seamless access to library materials, and providing training to users on navigating these resources. The librarian also collaborates with faculty to integrate library resources into curricula and stays current with emerging trends in library technologies to enhance the library’s digital services. Work hours may be flexible, including evenings and weekends.,Systems & Discoverability: Under the direction of the Dean of the Library, Systems & Discovery Librarian will assist in the design, planning, evaluation & configuration & discoverability of all systems i.e. ILLiad, Alma, Primo, Uborrow, Papercut, etc. They will be the primary point of contact for all issues related to all library systems & hardware (i.e. laptops, printers). Also addresses all systems & work to maximize library technology.

E-resources: Activates e-resources in the colleges library services platform, tests and verifies NCF community can access resources. Ensure access, authentication, & troubleshooting of resources across platforms, including Alma, Primo, EZproxy, ILLiad, OCLC WorldCat, etc. Work with library technical staff to maintain accurate & timely holdings data in Alma, link resolvers, & discovery system Collaborate with librarians, fiscal liaison, faculty to determine what e-resources are

needed. Work with vendors & the fiscal liaison on licensing, acquisitions, & renewals. Analyze usage statistics & generate reports to inform collection development & budgeting decisions.

Partner with librarians and faculty to ensure e-resources support academic programs and research needs. Collaborates with FLVC and Director of Tech Services to ensure that all resources are working properly and sources are updated.

Research Support : The Research & Instruction Librarian provides students individual assistance and instruction with research by appointment, on a drop-in basis, and through email and other digital channels. The Librarian develops instructional materials and provides classroom instruction on research strategies to groups of students when requested to do so by faculty. In addition, the Librarian maintains libguides and A-Z list of databases to assist students and faculty with finding appropriate information resources on their own.

Instructional Technology Support: The Research & Instruction Librarian collaborates with the Director of Learning Resources and the Instructional Technology Support technician to provide a variety of instructional technology support services: The Research & Instruction Librarian assists faculty with identifying and implementing appropriate research and technology tools to aid their students' learning; helps students make best use of the instructional technologies available in the library to aid their learning; and facilitates or assist with facilitating workshops that guide faculty in the effective use of information resources and instructional technology.

Communication The Research & Instruction Librarian is a primary conduit for information between the library and the faculty, identifying student and faculty information and instructional technology needs, and communicating those needs to the library. In addition, Librarians contribute to library outreach and may initiate, plan, oversee, manage, and conduct a variety of programs, events, communication vehicles, and activities to alert students and faculty to resources appropriate to their work and promote the library’s mission.

Planning and Assessment Under the direction of the Dean of the Library, and in collaboration with other librarians and staff, the Research & Instruction Librarian helps guide collection development and participates in the overall administration of the library, including long-range planning, program and services development and assessment, and developing library policies.

Professional Development The Research & Instruction Librarian is expected to maintain awareness of current trends in the profession, embrace productive innovations and change, learn skills as needed to assist students and faculty in using new tools and techniques, make contributions to the profession, and provide service to the community (e.g. statewide/regional/local committees).

Other Duties This position is expected to perform other duties/functions as requested by the Dean of the Library, and responsibilities of the position will evolve as the library and College environment continues to change. Examples include oversight of the Maker Space, SpringShare Admin, ILS Liaison with FLVC, Website management, and social media.,Master’s degree in Library & Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution,Experience as a professional librarian providing reference/instructional services in an academic library setting.

Experience developing LibGuides, tutorials, and learning objects.
