Looking for qualified Early Childhood staff for our preschool, Parish Day School of Eastern Shore Chapel, to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for preschool aged students that encourage the spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth of the children.

Create and implement lesson plans that emphasize developmentally appropriate
practices to promote the development of spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical
skills through musical concepts, age-appropriate seasonal music and chapel songs while
maintaining compliance with the Department of Education Standards for Licensed Child Day
Centers, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Quality Rating
and Improvement System (QRIS) and the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia
Duties
• Create a positive classroom environment through your enthusiasm, engagement in
social conversation, respectfulness in interactions and facilitation of positive peer
interactions
• Coordinate, implement and prepare children for seasonal programs (Christmas,
Valentine’s Day, Spring and Morning Prayer)
• Coordinate and lead musical selections for morning chapel program
• Instruct children in proper care and use of musical instruments and equipment
• Display sensitivity by consistently responding to students and effectively addressing
students’ questions, concerns and needs
• Demonstrate awareness of individual students’ emotional abilities and provide
appropriate levels of support
• Possess a high regard for students’ perspectives by intentionally placing an emphasis on
students’ interests, motivations and points of view
• Promote students’ independence by providing meaningful roles for them within the
classroom, encouraging them to talk and share their ideas, and allowing them to make
decisions for themselves when appropriate
• Provide effective behavior management by focusing on proactive intervention and
redirection of minor misbehaviors
• Make use of positive feedback to reinforce desired behavior and repeated praise for
meeting those expectations
• Provide students with specific expectations for their behavior and repeated praise for
meeting those expectations
• Be consistent with consequences by providing immediate and predictable responses
about the behavior
• Be organized and efficient to minimize disruptions to learning
• Provide high-quality instructional formats through the use of many modalities (e.g.
visual, oral, movement)
• Encourage the use of analysis and reasoning skills through open-ended and thought
provoking questions (sequencing, comparing/contrasting and problem-solving activities)
• Link learning to the real world by using examples that are likely to occur in students’
lives and encourage them to add their own examples
• Provide high-quality feedback in the form of scaffolding (hints/assistance), feedback
loops (back-and-forth exchanges between teacher and students), and prompting
thought processes (asking students to explain thinking)
• Demonstrate high language modeling by encouraging, responding to and expanding
student talk through engaging in meaningful conversations with students
• Ensure the classroom environment is in compliance with the Department of Education
Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers, the National Association for the Education of
Young Children (NAEYC), Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) and the
Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality with children, families and staff
• Participate in program evaluations, staff meetings, and required training programs as
mandated by the Parish Day School, NAEYC, QRIS and the Department of Education
• Support the classroom teachers by providing requested documentation to fulfill
requirements for online portfolios/ Support the Parent Association in their endeavors to fundraise for the school

Requirements
- Positive, reliable work ethic
- Passionate about working with children
- Meets/exceeds licensing requirements including:
- TB Test
- Background Check
- Documentation of citizenship
- Physical ability to perform the required job duties with or without accommodations
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess program leader requirements as mandated through the Department of
- Education Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers
- Conduct self in a manner worthy of a child’s respect, both on site and in the community.
- Respond appropriately to authority and communicate well with coworkers and supervisors
- Possess efficient and knowledgeable computer skills, including, but not limited to
- Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Outlook and the internet
- Be able to lift 30 to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Possess stamina and mental clarity to work punctually and consistently for the assigned shifts
Nice To Haves
- Experience in early childhood education or related field
- Hold CDS or other associate's degree or higher
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification
- Current Medication Administration Training (MAT)
