Job Summary:
The Horticulturist and Design Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining a large estate with multiple venues and several busy seasons throughout the year to include decorating indoor and outdoor venues, managing greenhouses, orchards, etc., and maintaining general plant health.
- Design, order, maintain, and exercise sound judgement in maintaining plants for the estate pertaining to pruning practices, watering schedules, fertilization, and general plant health.
- Oversee plants at facilities to include, but not limited to, two small greenhouses, orchards, vineyards, roadways, woodlands, growing and nursery areas.
- Decorate indoor and outdoor facilities and venues, including AirBNBs, with seasonal and event-focused designs.
- Support large-scale Christmas operations, hosting thousands of guests annually.
- Facilitate and manage production practices that are safety-minded and compliant with evolving government rules and regulations.
- Operate a pickup truck and a box truck, as well as safely drive a truck while pulling a trailer.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- A degree in Horticulture or similar certification is preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Strong background and knowledge in the field of Horticulture, with at least 2 years’ experience in a related field
- Able to assess situations and make proper horticultural decisions, using educational background, former training, and knowledge.
- Superior oral and written communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills and initiative
- Proven time management skills with keen attention to detail.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues across departments to achieve shared goals
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and embrace professional growth opportunities.
- Strong follow-through and a keen sense of ownership, along with an aptitude for building relationships at all levels within the organization.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Regularly required to sit or walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; use peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus; work in wet or humid conditions and in outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequently required to stand, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk, smell; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use distance vision. Subject to cleaning chemicals.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move over 100 pounds, work in high places.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
