What You’ll Do:

We’re looking for an experienced Sr. Software Engineer to oversee the technical strategy, architecture, and execution of interactive, immersive experiences on Roblox. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, hands-on development, and leadership, making it critical to the successful delivery of high-quality, performant, and innovative experiences. As the Sr. Software Engineer, you’ll work closely with creative teams, engineering, and brand partners, ensuring that projects meet both the technical standards of the platform and the creative aspirations of our partners. This role will be owning some of Roblox most ambitious, high impact activations with the worlds biggest partners! If you are an expert in technical leadership and immersive technology with a passion for innovation and storytelling, you will be right at home with us!

You Are:

• Experienced: You have 4+ years of experience in technical leadership, software engineering, or a related role in gaming, digital media, or interactive experiences. You have a proven track record of driving technical teams in the development of large-scale products or interactive experiences, with a focus on delivering high-performance, high-quality products.

• Expert: You have expertise in platform optimization, technical architecture, and immersive technology, ideally with Roblox Studio and Lua scripting experience.

• A Leader: You possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex technical and stakeholder relationships across multiple projects.

• Strategic: You have a deep understanding of product lifecycle management, technical roadmaps, and experience prioritizing technical features for optimized outcomes. You also have strong analytical skills, including proficiency in leveraging performance data and audience insights to inform technical decisions.

• Passionate: You are passionate about immersive storytelling, innovation, and pioneering new technical frontiers in interactive media.

You will:

• Architect and implement the technical vision and architecture for experiences, aligning with Roblox’s standards and Partner Innovation Studio’s creative goals.

• Optimize experiences for performance, scalability, and reliability on Roblox, focusing on platform-specific features that enhance engagement and immersion.

• Drive and mentor external and internal developers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive a high standard of technical execution.

• Collaborate closely with creative, product, and engineering teams to ensure alignment on technical feasibility, timelines, and requirements.

• Develop and prioritize a technical roadmap with product managers that balances feature development with platform optimization.

• Act as the technical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, clearly communicating technical requirements, risks, and solutions.

• Define and manage technical resources and budgets, ensuring on-time delivery and alignment with project goals.

• Drive QA efforts and technical reviews, establishing best practices to ensure a smooth and stable user experience on all devices.

• Proactively identify potential technical risks and implement strategies to address challenges, ensuring seamless project delivery.

• Advocate for technical innovation and process improvements, leveraging feedback and performance metrics to refine development approaches and optimize future projects.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

$192,890—$222,910 USD
