Job Summary
The Music Director is responsible for providing liturgical music for parish and family celebrations. The Music Director works closely with the Liturgy Coordinator and the Parish Business Administrator regarding human resources. The role requires independent judgment and initiative.
Description
The Music Director supports the liturgical and musical needs of the parish, coordinating music for various liturgies and celebrations, recruiting and leading choirs, and supporting parish events. Administrative duties include managing budgets, scheduling, and preparing liturgical music materials.
Requirements
Essential Duties
- Support and uphold Catholic ministry philosophy and parish mission.
- Model Gospel values and participate in religious training and reflection.
In Particular
- Coordinate liturgical music for all parish liturgies and celebrations.
- Support parish retreats, youth and adult ministries, and diocesan events.
- Recruit, lead, and schedule choirs and cantors; conduct rehearsals in English and Spanish.
Projects for the Near Future
- Recruit and train musicians; introduce new Mass settings; develop a Children’s Choir.
Administrative Duties
- Attend meetings, manage budgets, prepare music selections, and coordinate digital resources.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, church music, and music theory.
- Proficiency in piano and familiarity with other instruments.
- Ability to lead and organize choirs and provide vocal coaching.
- Fluent in English and Spanish; excellent organizational and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Understanding of music theory; pursuing or holding a degree in music or related field preferred.
- At least 3 years of parish music ministry experience; piano skills preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- Valid Texas driver’s license; compliance with EIM policies.
Working Conditions
Includes evenings, weekends, and holidays; participation in liturgical celebrations; use of personal or parish vehicles; travel may be required.
