KHOU 11, the CBS affiliate and TEGNA-owned station in Houston, is seeking a dynamic and visionary

Executive Producer to lead our teams through media transformation as we expand and elevate our local streaming presence. This is a rare opportunity to help shape new programming for one of the nation's largest and most dynamic cities. We’re looking for an innovative, driven leader who is passionate about winning weather and breaking news, while also helping lead teams through the creation of live coverage, original storytelling, and dynamic local content for all audiences and platforms.

At KHOU 11, we believe the future of news is streaming — and our platforms are at the heart of our mission to engage, inform, and reflect Houston’s diverse communities. This executive producer will be responsible for leading a team of content producers creating live programming across our linear channel, our 24/7 KHOU 11+ streaming channel, developing local shows and segments, and ensuring KHOU 11’s streaming content is essential, timely, and audience focused.

The perfect candidate will possess prior TV leadership experience, a commitment to success, and a desire to mentor and offer regular feedback to the team. They will know that news coverage doesn't begin or end with a scheduled newscast and that winning in today's fractured media landscape means helping craft memorable content across all platforms, while maintaining a focus on core properties.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise producers, writers, anchors, and MSJs to create compelling and forward-thinking newscasts. Mentor staff and foster a positive, collaborative culture.
  • Set the tone and direction of news coverage, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with the station’s mission. Encourage enterprise, original storytelling, and solutions-oriented journalism.
  • Make fast, informed decisions during live broadcasts. Direct breaking news coverage and ensure timely, clear, and comprehensive weather reporting—that reflects our Weather Impact brand and works within the team's aggressive multi-platform approach to live coverage.
  • Collaborate across teams to enhance multi-platform storytelling. Drive content that resonates on-air and online, with strong headlines, visuals, and SEO-friendly strategies.
  • Manage continuous live coverage of breaking news and community events, creatively combining live video, graphics, sound, and context to keep viewers informed.
  • Curate and schedule content specifically for the streaming audience.
  • Pitch, develop, and produce new show concepts and original digital segments.
  • Use real-time data and audience analytics to guide editorial decisions and show development.
  • Champion coverage that highlights and represents Houston’s diverse communities.
  • Stay current on emerging streaming technologies, digital content trends, and audience habits.
  • Adapt and repurpose content from broadcast and digital platforms specifically for streaming needs.
  • Help build the identity of KHOU 11’s streaming channel through creative storytelling and strong journalistic instincts.
  • Drive social media presence, brand promotion and storytelling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in broadcast news, with at least 2 in a leadership role
  • Expect to produce newscasts and breaking or streaming coverage as needed
  • Track record of quality journalism, high integrity, and ethical decision-making
  • Passion for growing journalists and fostering a creative, positive, and collaborative newsroom
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news, and changing events
  • Strong organization, planning skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
  • Knowledge of AP ENPS, Adobe, photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems a plus

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with multi-platform content distribution strategies
  • Knowledge of current trends in local television and digital media
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop talent
  • Familiarity and adoption of emerging technologies including AI
