This role is primarily remote, but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Warren, or Sunnyvale, you are expected to report to that location at least three times a week.

About the Role:
We’re seeking a highly skilled Graphic Designer with 7–10 years of experience and a deep appreciation for timeless design principles. You’ll contribute to the evolution of the GM Design Language and the creation of a cohesive GM Design System, supporting visual consistency across vehicle operating systems, web, and mobile platforms. Your focus will be on typography, structure, and clarity to develop memorable, innovative, and enjoyable user experiences. You will bridge brand and UI design, ensuring interfaces function beautifully and reflect GM’s voice, values, and visual identity. Your role involves translating brand principles into actionable design systems that inspire teams across digital product design and marketing.
Your work will be grounded in modernist sensibilities, rigorous systems thinking, and disciplined, grid-based design methodologies, influenced by icons like Wim Crouwel, Otl Aicher, and Josef Müller-Brockmann. You will play a key role in shaping GM’s visual identity and advancing the GM Design System, ensuring precision, unity, and purpose across all touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement cohesive visual systems across brand identity, print, digital, and UI design.
Create design solutions that communicate complex data clearly and elegantly.
Apply expert typography skills to maintain a consistent and expressive brand voice.
Design and maintain scalable brand systems based on grid and systems thinking.
Develop robust design logic and frameworks before visual execution.
Prioritize content clarity, functionality, and meaningful communication in all designs.
Collaborate with brand strategy teams to align designs with strategic goals.
Work with front-end developers to ensure seamless implementation of design systems and UI components.
Adapt brand systems across various media with creativity, precision, and consistency.
Support and mentor a small design team (2–3 designers), fostering collaboration and growth.
Qualifications:
7–10 years of professional experience in graphic design, focusing on information design, typography within brand identity, and design systems.
A strong portfolio demonstrating mastery of grid systems, typographic hierarchy, and visual storytelling.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and UI tools like Figma.
Experience working with brand strategy, UX, accessibility, and front-end development teams.
Deep knowledge of modernist design principles and their application in contemporary brand systems.
Ability to think systematically and apply structured design thinking.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Prototyping skills are a plus.

Compensation:
The salary range is $177,000 - $270,900, based on experience and relevant factors.
Bonus potential:
Incentive pay based on company, job level, and individual performance.
